On October 16, 2003, new regulations by the Food and Drug Administration
of the United States went into effect. These regulations are in addition
to all previous FDA approvals or certifications.
These new regulations require that any company that makes, grows,
packages, stores or holds-for-transport any food or beverages for export
to the United States must register with the FDA and that FDA receive a
Prior Notice of food imported into the U.S.
FDA has also mandated that foreign food suppliers
appoint U.S. agents as links in the information chain between foreign
seller and buyer. The U.S. agent may be any individual having a physical
presence in the U.S.
Companies are required to comply with the new regulations and register
by December 12, 2003 or their products will not be allowed entry into the
