FDA Bioterrorism Rules

On October 16, 2003, new regulations by the Food and Drug Administration of the United States went into effect. These regulations are in addition to all previous FDA approvals or certifications.

These new regulations require that any company that makes, grows, packages, stores or holds-for-transport any food or beverages for export to the United States must register with the FDA and that FDA receive a Prior Notice of food imported into the U.S.

FDA has also mandated that foreign food suppliers appoint U.S. agents as links in the information chain between foreign seller and buyer. The U.S. agent may be any individual having a physical presence in the U.S.

Companies are required to comply with the new regulations and register by December 12, 2003 or their products will not be allowed entry into the United States.
